2013 Protecting Children and Families from Tobacco: Leadership Advocacy Training Available

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), American College of Physicians (ACP), and the American Medical Association (AMA) are seeking applications from members to be trained as physician leaders in tobacco control advocacy.

Applicants interested in or already advocating in their states and communities for policies that support tobacco control, protect nonsmokers, and provide better access to tobacco cessation services are encouraged to apply.  The workshop will be a mix of panel presentations and small breakout groups.  This is the second training jointly held by the five medical societies.  Feedback from the 2011 participants includes:

This was one of the BEST training sessions I have ever attended. The interaction and networking opportunities were endless and all of the speakers were helpful in supporting individual ideas about advocacy efforts. – 2011 Leadership Advocacy Trainee

In addition to the content evaluated, meeting with a wide variety of physicians who have an interest in the same subject was incredibly valuable. I don’t often get to discuss such issues with internists and FPs as a pediatrician. Very inspiring and helpful. – 2011 Leadership Advocacy Trainee

The training will be held on April 26-27, 2013 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC.  Typed applications must be submitted via e-mail no later than 4:00pm CST on Friday, January 18, 2013.  Handwritten applications will not be accepted. Applicants selected to participate will be provided coach airfare and hotel accommodations (maximum of 2 nights).

Download the application (Word file), or email [email protected] for more information.
