AMA EVP, CEO to Leave AMA in 2011

AMA Executive Vice President and CEO Michael Maves, MD, MBA, will leave the AMA next year, after serving the physician organization for nearly nine years. The announcement came in a press release on Thursday. According to the AMA, the Board of Trustees and Dr. Maves mutually decided that he would complete his leadership role when his current contract ends on June 30, 2011. The Trustees will engage an executive search firm to identify the next physician executive to lead the AMA and expects a new Executive Vice President, CEO to be in place by the conclusion of Dr. Maves’ contract. Bernard Hengesbaugh, Chief Operating Officer, will partner with Dr. Maves during the transition.
