Earlier this week, the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer announced that the third party administration services contract for the State Health Plan will once again be awarded to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) beginning July 1, 2013. BCBSNC will be the claims processor for the Plan until 2016, providing administrative and billing services. To read the statement released by the Department, click here. Humana and United Healthcare were awarded contracts to offer services for the Medicare Advantage Fully Insured Plan beginning January 2014.
The State Health Plan provides health coverage to more than 663,000 participants, including teachers, state employees, retirees, current and former lawmakers, state university and community college personnel, and state hospital staff.
