On November 16, 2010, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation celebrated the 10th anniversary of their founding. The NCMS Foundation joined in the celebration in Raleigh to extend their appreciation for the five-year grant of $10 million from the BCBSNC Foundation, awarded in 2006, to the Foundation’s Community Practitioner Program. The CPP program supports rural underserved communities by providing medical education loan repayment for primary care physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who agree to serve at least five years in a community designated as rural, economically distressed or having a shortage of health care professionals. The joint effort between the NCMS Foundation and the BCBSNC Foundation has, to date, provided more than $236 million in care to uninsured patients in 153 high-need North Carolina communities in 86 counties.
