On Saturday a $21.25 billion budget for the fiscal year that began on July 1 was passed by the legislature and was sent to the Governor for further action, nearly 12 weeks into the “short” session. While the House and Senate have passed a budget, the legislature ultimately could not agree on the terms of adjourning the current legislative session. It is expected that lawmakers will return, at a minimum to officially end the session, while also coming back for a special legislative session that will convene in November 2014 to discuss Medicaid reform.
The NCMS will be providing an analysis of the relevant budget provisions along with other legislative highlights impacting the medical profession in its Legislative Summary to be released in the coming weeks.
