The US Senate blocked a vote to consider Senate Bill 1776 on Wednesday. Known as the Medicare Physicians Fairness Act of 2009, the legislation would have provided a permanent fix to the flawed SGR formula. Currently Medicare physician payments will be cut by 21.5% beginning January 2010 unless Congress takes action.

If you are an NCMS Delegate and have not received your packet as of today, please contact Linda Carter, [email protected] or (919) 833-3836, ext. 135. The packets were mailed last Friday, October 16, to all registered delegates of the 2009 NCMS House of Delegates (HOD). Each packet contained a delegate card and a flash drive that holds all meeting information and necessary materials for HOD business.

State-operated hospitals, residential schools, developmental disability centers, neuro-medical treatment centers and alcohol and drug treatment centers have implemented steps to limit the spread of the H1N1 influenza virus. Effective today, all state facilities will actively screen all staff and visitors to identify people exhibiting signs of respiratory infections.
