Comings & Goings: NCMS Announces Staff Changes

As 2012 began NCMS Executive Vice President & CEO Robert W. Seligson announced several staffing moves, including changes to the Society’s senior management team.

Donald R. Wall announced his pending retirement from the NCMS after 30 years of service. Don has served the NCMS as Deputy Executive Vice President since 1994. During his tenure, Don has overseen many changes at the NCMS, including the transition to a new CEO when Seligson was hired 18 years ago. He has been a vital part of the development of the NCMS Foundation and the NC Physicians Health Program (NCPHP), and assists both organizations today. Don continues at the NCMS until July 31, 2012 working on several special projects. His career and accomplishments will be honored in the Bulletin prior to his retirement.

Shawn Scott has been promoted to Deputy Executive Vice President, Operations and Administration. Previously, she served as associate deputy vice president, operations and administration. She joined the NCMS in 1998 as director of marketing and member services.

Melanie Phelps has been promoted to the position of Deputy General Counsel; Associate Executive Director, NCMS Foundation. She previously served as deputy general counsel for the NCMS. She joined the NCMS in 2000 as associate general counsel for health policy, after working in government affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.

Pamela Highsmith has joined the NCMS Foundation as Director of Development and will oversee fund raising for the Foundation and Medical Society, and manage the NCMS Leadership College. Pam previously served the Foundation from 1996 – 2008. 

Will Barnett has joined the NCMS as the Assistant Director for Legislative and Political Action.  Previously, Will worked for a start-up software company in Durham.  While he was a student at the University of South Carolina, he completed internships for Senator Richard Burr, SC Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, and Bellwether Consulting Group. 

Maggie Sauer resigned in January as Associate Executive Director of the NCMS Foundation to join the NC Association of Advanced Health Programs as President and CEO. Last week’s Bulletin reported the retirement of Mike Edwards as Director of Media Relations and Public Affairs, a position he held since 1999. The NCMS thanks them both for their dedicated service.
