More than a hundred physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, supporters and partnership representatives turned out for the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Community Practitioner Program (CPP) in Raleigh on October 31, 2009. The celebration comes as the NCMS Foundation looks to the future to build and expand the highly successful CPP, which already is addressing many of the concerns and needs targeted by the federal stimulus program, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The CPP works to provide access to quality health care to economically distressed and medically underserved communities in NC.
Richard F. Bruch, MD, President of the NCMS Foundation Board of Trustees, which oversees the CPP, served as emcee. Mott Blair, MD, the first CPP participant, shared stories about life as a country doctor in Wallace, NC.
Presented Awards of Appreciation for their contributions to the CPP were:
E. Harvey Estes, Jr., MD, Trustee and Founder
E. Ray Cope, Past President, and John H. Frank, Director, Health Care Division, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, which provided a $4.5 million grant to start the CPP in 1989
Torlen “Tork” Wade, Executive Director of NC Community Care, NC Foundation for Advanced Health Programs, and representing long-time CPP partner, the NC Office of Rural Health and Community Care
