The Veterans Administration broke ground on January 12, 2012, for a new outpatient clinic located on a 12-acre site near the Brody School of Medicine in Greenville. The facility will have 116,000 square feet of clinic space and will employ approximately 300 people when it opens in early 2014.
Paul Cunningham, MD, Dean of the Brody School of Medicine and a member of the NCMS Board of Directors, participated in the ceremony, along with Congressman G. K. Butterfield (D-1st District), Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas, and several VA officials.
The current Greenville VA facility serves more than 8,300 patients, but many require specialty care that requires them to make a four-hour round trip to the VA Medical Center in Durham. The VA says the new clinic is expected to cut down on that travel. The new clinic will offer veterans access to specialty services like cardiology, audiology, orthopaedics, eye care, radiology, minor procedures, pharmacy and dental care.
