On Wednesday, April 14, 2010, the North Carolina Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services received an update from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regarding the creation of new Critical Access Behavioral Health Agencies (CABHAs). These new agencies are proposed to be the only approved providers of Community Support Team, Intensive In-Home, Day Treatment, and Case Management/Peer Support services within the state mental health system. DHHS would like to begin implementing the CABHA program on July 1 of this year and allow a six-month transition period for existing providers until December 31, 2010.
