UNC Health Care CEO William Roper, MD, announced on Tuesday that Cedric Bright, MD, will be leaving Duke University Medical Center to become Assistant Dean for Admissions and Director of the Office of Special Programs at the UNC School of Medicine, effective July 1, 2011. He will be an Associate Professor in the Division of General Medicine in the Department of Medicine.
An internist, Dr. Bright currently serves as the President of the Old North State Medical Society and will be installed as the 112th president of the National Medical Association in July.
Among Dr. Bright’s responsibilities will be to oversee the Medical Education Development (MED) Program, which is designed to increase opportunities in the health professions for individuals who demonstrate educational promise and commitment to a health career but who have lacked the opportunity to move toward their professional goals. Dr. Bright, a Winston-Salem native, is a graduate of the MED Program. Prior to earning his MD at UNC, he received a BA in Semiotics from Brown University.
