EHR Certification Bodies Named

Physicians who have or are considering purchasing an Electronic Health Record system (EHR) will soon have some needed help.  On Monday, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology named the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), Chicago, and the Drummond Group, Austin, Texas, as the first technology review organizations authorized to test and certify EHR systems for compliance with the standards and certification criteria that were issued by US DHHS earlier this year. This means that EHR vendors can now begin to have their products certified as meeting criteria to support meaningful use.
