NCMS Member John Torontow, MD, Associate Medical Director for Medical Informatics at Piedmont Health Services in Siler City, made a presentation to the Durham-Orange County Medical Society on August 11 that overviewed state efforts to assist medical practices with Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation. Dr. Torontow provided a straightforward look at why medical practices should implement an EHR and how it benefits practice operations, payment, and patient care.
For more than 18 months, the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) and the NCMS Foundation have engaged in state efforts to develop Regional Extension Centers (REC) offering technical assistance and a statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE).
