Cabarrus Community Health Centers, Inc., of North Carolina is among 85 community health centers nationwide that will benefit from funds awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and made available under the Affordable Care Act. HRSA and the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology announced Monday that $8.5 million in awards would go to community health center programs, located in 15 of the 17 Beacon Communities across the United States. The funds will be used to build and strengthen health information technology (HIT) infrastructure and exchange capabilities to improve care coordination, increase the quality of care, and slow the growth of health care spending.
“Beacon Communities are about empowering doctors, nurses, patients and community leaders to come together and use technology to make tangible differences in the lives of everyday Americans,” said HRSA Administrator Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN.
Cabarrus Community Health Centers, Inc., will receive nearly $100,000 to implement HIT programs that will benefit health care delivery in the greater Concord community, located northeast of Charlotte.

Federal Dollars to Aid Development of Community Health Centers in NC
On Thursday, US DHHS announced awards totaling $10 million to aid 129 organizations across the country in becoming community health centers. Included were Community Health Interventions and Sickle Cell Agency in Fayetteville; and Guilford Adult Health, Inc., in Greensboro. Each received $80,000 to support development of a more comprehensive range of primary health care services and/or to expand their services to the larger community.
