Founding Member of Medical Review of NC Remembered

A well known Greenville, NC physician and founding member of Medical Review of North Carolina, John Lindsay Winstead, Jr., died November 11, 2009 at his home. A native of Greenville, Dr. Winstead opened a general surgery practice in 1966, after completing his undergraduate and medical degrees at Duke University. He retired from his surgical practice in 1997. A long-term member of the medical staff at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Dr. Winstead also served as Clinical Associate Professor at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. He helped to establish Greenville’s first Ambulatory Surgery Center, the Surgicenter. Active in the Pitt County and North Carolina Medical Societies, Dr. Winstead served on the Board of Directors of Medical Review of NC until 1998.  He is survived by his wife, Jean Butler Winstead, a son and 3 daughters, nine grandchildren, and a brother and sister.  He is the father-in-law of Michael Brohawn, president the NC Medical Group Managers Association. Memorial contributions may be made to The Memorial Baptist Church of Greenville or a charity of choice.
