Getting to know your Legislator: Our Return on Investment

Recently, our PAC enjoyed another tremendously successful election cycle.  Overall, we supported 72 candidates in the primary election and 59 in the general electionAs always, we supported candidates on both sides of the aisle.

Of the 72 candidates that received backing in the primary election, 66 of those candidates were triumphant in their election.  In the general election, we backed 59 candidates and 58 won.  Overall, we enjoyed a success rate of 94.6%.  Two of our NCMS members, Representative-elect James Fulghum, MD (R-Wake) and Representative Mark Hollo, PA  (R-Alexander), were elected.

Now that the election is over, it’s time to refocus our energy.  Over half of the legislators in both chambers of the General Assembly will be in their first or second term.   This provides an incredible opportunity for our members to establish relationships with them.  Click here for a list of members, including incoming freshmen, and their contact information.  If you are not sure who represents you, click here to look up your voter information.

Then, reach out to your legislator.  Inviting them for a tour of your practice, meeting for a cup of coffee or just calling to introduce yourself provides a forum for you to discuss issues related to your practice and the delivery of healthcare.

Later on, that legislator will be more likely to ask for your advice when they have questions about healthcare policy.  Good policy is made when physicians participate in the process.  That is the return on our investment.
