Since the opening of the 2009 session of the NC General Assembly, 60 physicians from across the state have visited Raleigh to lobby their legislators and key legislative leadership as part of the NCMS White Coat Wednesday Advocacy Day program. Physicians coming to Raleigh, telling their personal stories, and relaying their message is the best advocacy tool they have.
“I think that we, as physicians, grossly underestimate the potential influence and the enormous platform we have with our state legislators. During my visit to Raleigh, nearly all of the legislators I encountered recalled situations in which either they or family members were dependent upon a physician for essential, and sometimes lifesaving, healthcare.” Tim Edmisten, MD, WCW participant.
The NCMS Govt. Affairs staff would like to thank all those who have participated so far this year. The future success of this program relies solely on MD participation. If you are interested in organizing a day for your specialty or community, please contact Allison Clipp @ [email protected].
