State Epidemiologist Megan Davies, MD, has issued a memo to physicians and other health care providers in North Carolina on the “Spread of Hepatitis B Through Unsafe Diabetes Care.” The memo is in response to recent Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) outbreaks, in North Carolina and nationally, associated with sharing of diabetes care supplies among multiple persons (e.g. glucometers and reusable lancing devices). Click here to read the memo. Information about HBV and the recent outbreak in NC is available at www.epi.state.nc.us/epi/gcdc/hepatitis.html.
