NC DHHS Unveils Poster in Campaign to Stop Medicaid Fraud and Abuse

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services has created a poster that asks citizens to report Medicaid fraud and abuse. In a memo dated June 4, 2010, DHHS Secretary Lanier M. Cansler asked all health care agencies and private health care providers to display the poster prominently in their offices.

A copy of the poster and Secretary Cansler’s memo can be accessed from DMA’s website at http://www.ncdhhs.gov/dma/provider/fraud.htm.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. There were several Medicaid bulletins that focused only on Provider Fraud and Abuse. I called DMA and suggested they include information on recipient Fraud and Abuse and how to report that. I’m glad they finally did. I have the poster in my billing office where Medicaid patients receive OB counseling. However, what do you do about the 17y.o. pregnant Medicaid recipient who says she’s been trying to get pregnant since she was 14. Who do you report that to?
