The NC HIE received numerous responses to their request for proposal to provide the back bone architecture for the statewide health information exchange. Perrin Jones, MD, of Greenville Anesthesia Associates, Greenville, and Ben Alexander, MD, from WakeMed, Raleigh, are participating in the extensive evaluation process.
The field of vendors was narrowed down last week to four, and demonstrations by those vendors of their products were held on June 1 and 2 at the NC IOM. The June 1st evaluations focused on the clinical views and capabilities. NCMS Secretary-Treasurer Devdutta Sangvai, MD, from Durham, NCMS Board member John Reynolds, MD, from Shelby, and NCAFP Past President and AAFP Chapter Delegate Karen Smith, MD, from Raeford, joined the evaluation team for the June 1st demos to provide additional feedback from a clinician’s perspective. The June 2nd evaluations focused on the technical capabilities. A final decision will be made in the next week.
