NCMS Board Takes Position on House Health Care Reform Bill

As President Obama visited Raleigh Wednesday for a Town Hall meeting on health care reform, the NCMS Board of Directors sent a letter to the North Carolina Congressional Delegation about HB 3200—”America’s Affordable Health Choices of 2009.” “The NCMS emphasizes that it supports elements of the legislation that are consistent with our guiding principles for health system reform,” writes NCMS President Albert J. Osbahr, MD. “We do not support HR 3200 in its current format.”

In the letter, Dr. Osbahr lists those elements that the Board supports and those elements with which the Board has “grave concerns.” The Board spent many hours reviewing HR 3200 before issuing the letter. The NCMS continues to work with the NC Congressional Delegation on health care reform issues. Watch for updates in the Bulletin and on the NCMS Web page, www.ncmedsoc.org.
