Hadley Callaway, MD, and William Walker, MD, attended the AMA Organized Medical Staff Section Annual Meeting from June 10-12 in Chicago.  The educational sessions and much of the reference committee discussions focused on issues related to health system reform.  Melanie Phelps, deputy general counsel, NCMS, also attended the meeting. 

Notable speakers included:  Mark Millar, Executive Director, Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, who presented on  Reforming the Health Care Delivery System—Readmissions, Bundling, and Beyond;  and Frank Opelka, MD, FACS, Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, who is the surgeon member to the Brookings-Dartmouth The ACO Advisory Panel, gave a presentation on Accountable Care Organizations: Forging Stakeholder Partnerships for Health Care Performance and Efficiency.
