NCMS Members Receive Community Service Awards

The North Carolina Pediatric Society (NCPS) recently held their annual meeting in Wilmington, NC. As part of the annual meeting the NCPS handed out awards to members who have shown extraordinary strengths in the North Carolina medical community. Among the winners were two NCMS members, Gerri L. Mattson, MD, MSPH, FAAP and Olson Huff, MD, FAAP.

Dr. Mattson, who also is a NCMS Leadership College scholar, was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Service Award, which is given to a pediatrician who has made exceptional contributions to his/her local or statewide community beyond the practice setting. Dr. Mattson received the award because of her tireless representation of public health programs and her work on multiple initiatives as a liaison and advocate for children’s health.

Dr. Huff was awarded the 2012 Honorary Membership Award, which is given to a pediatrician who has accomplished outstanding work in the field of pediatrics and made substantial contributions to NCPS. Huff received the honor because of the big impact he has made on pediatrics in North Carolina over the last 30 years, all the while being an active part of the NCPS.

The NCMS would like to offer our congratulations to both Dr. Mattson and Dr. Huff for all the hard work they have done for the North Carolina community.
