Professionally known as Dr. Hutto and affectionately called Edie, Edith Hutto Holt, MD, died March 4, 2010 in Asheville, where she became the first female dermatologist to enter private practice in North Carolina. She earned her undergraduate degree from Greensboro College and her MD from the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed her residency in dermatology at Duke University in 1962, joining the NCMS the following year. She is survived by her husband, Joel C. Holt, and two sons and three grandchildren.
