The North Carolina Medical Society has been working with Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC), the NC physician-directed Medicaid primary care management program, to further expand to specialty care. Bringing in the specialists serves two very important purposes. The first is to better manage the NC Medicaid population and increase savings to prevent traditional commercial managed care entities from being brought into North Carolina to manage our Medicaid patient population. The second is that it provides an opportunity for primary care and specialty physicians to work together to determine how to better coordinate and manage care, in order to improve the care of individuals, populations, and to control costs. This effort is in its infancy, and the NCMS and CCNC will be reaching out to specialties as time and resources permit. For more information, please contact Melanie Phelps at [email protected].
