Nash Ob-Gyn in Rocky Mount informed the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services last month that they will stop accepting new Medicaid patients due to the ongoing problems with the NCTracks Medicaid claims system. The committee, which meets again on Tuesday, Jan. 14, has oversight responsibilities for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), which launched NCTracks last July. Many practices statewide are enduring financial hardship due to the many unresolved faults in the new system.

“We have always felt very strongly about serving all the women in our community and the surrounding areas,” the partners in the practice wrote the committee members. “However, we now find with decreased reimbursement coupled with the time consuming process of receiving payment due to all the NCTracks problems that as of January 1, 2014 we will no longer be able to accept new Medicaid patients into our practice.”

The NCMS has worked diligently with the DHHS and CSC, the contractor responsible for the system, to resolve the technical difficulties and mitigate the impact to our members. However, significant issues remain and, unfortunately, Nash Ob-Gyn’s decision is the result.

This illustrates the severe consequences of not correcting the problems with NCTracks and will ultimately affect the state’s most vulnerable patient population.
