New Year, New Home Health Documentation Requirements for Physicians

As a result of the Affordable Care Act, physicians or non-physician practitioners (NPP) collaborating with the physician who certify patients as eligible for Medicare home health services must see the patient, beginning on January 1, 2011.   Physicians or NPP’s must document the visit and also document how the patient’s condition supports the need for skilled services in a home setting. FAQ’s regarding this requirement are available on Medicare’s website at: http://www.cms.gov/center/hha.asp.
