Physicians: Engage Your Patients and Community to Tackle the “Medicare Meltdown”

The North Carolina Medical Society this week joined with other medical societies throughout the U.S. to campaign for a permanent fix to the Medicare physician payment formula known as the SGR (sustainable growth rate). Following the lead of the Texas Medical Association, the NCMS is asking physicians to educate and engage their patients as part of a grassroots effort to gather one million signatures to stop the Medicare meltdown.

Physicians, patients, county medical society members, senior citizens and other community groups are urged to sign the online Stop the Medicare Meltdown petition.  Participants only need to add their name, city and state, then hit the “sign” button.

The NCMS has crafted a flyer that physicians can hand to their patients, which describes the issues with Medicare and encourages patients to take part in the petition effort. Download the flyer now and spread the word about this important campaign.

I am a solo family physician and want to continue practicing medicine but I can not continue practicing unless the reimbursement issue is fixed. I’m sorry.
