Renowned Surgeon Honored in Greenville Ceremony

Friends, family and colleagues honored renowned cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon W. Randolph Chitwood Jr., MD, on Monday, by unveiling his official portrait, which will hang in the patient resource center at the East Carolina Heart Institute (ECHI) at Pitt County Memorial Hospital (PCMH) in Greenville. The portrait was painted by award-winning portrait and gallery artist Rich Nelson, who lives in western NC.

Dr. Chitwood is senior associate vice chancellor for health sciences at East Carolina University and director of the ECHI. “He is always in search of the best of the best for his patients,” Phyllis Horns, vice chancellor for health sciences at ECU, said.
