UNC Physicians Network (UNCPN) has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the North Carolina Medical Society Employee Benefit Plan (NCMS Plan) for encouraging wellness and good health practices among its employees.  To qualify for the grant, UNCPN pledged to create an environment that supported healthy lifestyles. It had its employees complete a health assessment, participate in the seasonal influenza program and attend a 30-minute healthy living educational seminar. Ninety-nine percent of covered employees participated in the program and qualified for lower health insurance premium cost for 2013.

Additionally, employees participated in a 12-week walking program, where they logged a total of 24,954 miles.  The cumulative miles walked were greater than the earth’s circumference. To continue to provide a culture of wellness UNCPN committed to health policy changes to help employees do more, feel better and live longer.

The funds from the grant will be used to continue wellness initiatives; a weight management program is planned for the summer.

The NCMS Plan congratulates UNCPN on their great achievements.
