Volunteers Needed for Doctor of the Day Program

The 2011 session of the General Assembly starts next Wednesday, January 26th. We need volunteers for the Doctor of the Day Program. This is a valuable opportunity to meet or renew your acquaintance with your legislators and see the General Assembly in action.  We hope that you will schedule a date and that you will encourage your colleagues to participate.

The hours for the Doctor of the Day are:

Monday – 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Tuesday – Thursday – 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The legislative physician for a day provides basic first aid services to legislators and visitors at the Legislative Building.  Since more serious medical events are handled by local emergency medical personnel, all physicians are encouraged to participate.  In return, you will be introduced in both the House and Senate chambers, offered floor privileges (Doctors and Nurses of the Day are the only professionals afforded this privilege), and have the opportunity to attend committee meetings and visit with your local legislators throughout the day.  Volunteering time to extend this valuable service enhances the image of the profession and bolsters the efforts of your Medical Society.  Serving as Doctor of the Day precludes you from lobbying on your day of service.

The Doctor of the Day should have malpractice insurance and active license status with no public disciplinary action by the NC Medical Board.

Please contact Dodie Renfer at [email protected] or 919-733-5463 to schedule a day that is convenient for you or for more information.
