NCMS Board member Paul Cunningham, MD, and Warren Newton, MD, have been named to the new eight-member Board of Trustees overseeing the State Health Plan. Dr. Cunningham is Dean of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, and Dr. Newton is Vice Dean for Education and Chief Education Officer at the UNC-CH School of Medicine. Appointments to the Board were made by State Treasurer Janet Cowell, Governor Beverly Perdue, Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger and House Speaker Thom Tillis. The Board began its duties on January 1, 2012, as a result of legislation passed in 2011 to improve accountability and efficiency of the state health insurance plan.
