At last week’s NCMS Board of Directors meeting, more than 15 specialty societies heard an overview of Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC)  efforts to provide primary and specialty care to Medicaid patients from NCMS Member L. Allen Dobson, Jr., MD, who serves as their President & CEO. CCNC is a physician-led, community-based organization that takes a population management approach in improving health care and containing costs for North Carolina’s most vulnerable population. 

CCNC has evolved over the past 25 years to provide care that is rooted in the communities that it serves. Their main focus is to implement care, through public and private partnerships, by doctors who are serving patients in a more efficient and cost effective manner. The professionals affiliated with CCNC have worked together to offer cooperative, coordinated care through a Medical Home model. This type of model has benefited more than 5,000 health care professionals, 1.2 million patients, and nine million taxpayers.

Attending specialty societies also were given a legislative update by NCMS staff to help them prepare for issues in the upcoming legislative session; an overview of the NCMS’ Toward Accountable Care Initiative; and an update regarding Meaningful Use requirements.
