Nancy Henley, MD, Named Medical Director, NC Medicaid

Henley prof photo copyNancy Henley, MD, will begin her new job at the Medical Director for the North Carolina Department of Medical Assistance next Thursday, Dec. 19. Dr. Henley, an internist at the University of North Carolina (UNC), Chapel Hill, is an active member of the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) and is a NCMS Foundation Leadership College 2013 alumna.   She has been heavily involved with the Toward Accountable Care Consortium (TACC), which is spearheaded by NCMS. Dr. Henley also serves on the Board of the Durham Orange County Medical Society.

Dr. Henley grew up in Alabama and came to North Carolina to study administration at the UNC School of Public Health. She earned her master’s degree in public health from UNC in 1973.  After working in rural health care delivery for several years, she returned to UNC for medical school and residency, earning her MD in 1982.

She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Her primary work in recent years has been as a medical executive with health plans and North Carolina Medicaid. Her professional focus is efficient delivery of high quality health care through the development and implementation of innovative health care programs.
