Sanford Family Physician to Lead NCMS in 2010-2011

John R. Mangum, MD, a family physician from Sanford, was installed as the 157th President of the North Carolina Medical Society during the 2010 Annual Meeting in Winston-Salem. Prior to being elected as President-Elect last year, Dr. Mangum had served as Secretary-Treasurer for five years.  He became Chair of the AMA Delegation in 2009.

Dr. Mangum entered private practice in 1984, when he joined Sanford Medical Group, which today is a satellite of Pinehurst Medical Clinic. He received undergraduate and medical degrees from UNC-CH and completed his residency at Charlotte Memorial Hospital (Carolinas Medical Center). He also serves on the Board of the Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence (CCME), a physician-sponsored non-profit organization that seeks to advance the quality of health care for Medicare and Medicaid patients in North and South Carolina.

Dr. Mangum succeeds Douglas D. Sheets, MD, who now serves as Immediate Past President of the NCMS.
