Cornerstone Health Care in High Point reached a significant milestone recently when they announced their move from a strictly fee-for-service payment model to a value-based reimbursement partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. Cornerstone now has such arrangements with all major commercial payers, including United HealthCare, Aetna, Cigna and Coventry Health Care of the Carolinas, as well as Medicare. 

NCMS has spearheaded efforts to support the transition to accountable or value-driven health care in which reimbursements are based on the quality of services delivered. The Society had helped bring together nearly 40 other North Carolina medical societies and organizations in the Toward Accountable Care (TAC) Consortium and Initiative. TAC provides the medical community with the resources and tools needed to understand, participate in, navigate, lead and succeed in improving the quality of health care and controlling costs.
