EHR Loan Program Expands to All of North Carolina — Contact NCMS Foundation for Assistance

The Electronic Health Record (EHR) Loan Program has expanded and is now available to primary care practices in all 100 NC counties.  The program provides EHR loans specifically focusing on small rural/underserved and urban primary care practices. Working with stakeholders such as the NC Department of Health and Human Services Office of Health Information Technology and Self Help Credit Union, the NCMS Foundation provides financial assessment and practice management support to ensure practices are financially prepared and organized to implement an EHR.

Under the program, primary care practices can access the capital required to purchase an EHR system prior to the onset of the ARRA-Funded federal incentive program under Medicare and Medicaid. The loans are structured for practices who traditionally have been underserved by conventional lenders, as well as practices who serve a disproportionate number of Medicaid/Medicare and indigent patients. The size of the loan will vary based on the practice need for equipment training, with the average loan size ranging from $40,000 – 60,000, and collateral is required.
