Duke University is offering a two-day forum on Health, Social Justice, and the Civil Rights Movement in American Medicine, March 3-4, 2010, at the John Hope Franklin Center, 2204 Erwin Road, Room 240, in Durham.

Forum events will include:

Wednesday, March 3, 12noon – 1:00pm: panel discussion on The Civil Rights Roots of Healthcare Activism, featuring award-winning scholar John Dittmer, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Department of History, Depauw University; and Sharon Bynum-Elliott, NP, PhD, Co-Founder and Clinical Director of CAARE, Inc.

Wednesday, March 3, 7:00pm – 9:00pm, Health and Social Justice: Practice and Research—A Forum for Graduate and Professional Students.

Thursday, March 4, 5:30pm – 7:00pm, panel discussion  on Justice in Healthcare, Today and in the Past: A Conversation with John Dittmer. Panelists include Onye Akwari, MD; William Chafe, PhD; Dennis Clements, MD; Sherman A. James, PhD; and Evelyn Schmidt, MD.
