On Thursday, November 15, 2012, the American Cancer Society will hold “Great American Smokeout,” an initiative that asks people to give up cigarettes for a day and donate the money they would have spent on cigarettes to a high school scholarship program. The program became nationwide in 1977 with nearly 1 million smokers quitting for the day.
