Recent outbreaks of meningitis type b at Princeton University in New Jersey and the University of California, Santa Barbara, have renewed focus on the vaccines available to prevent certain types of bacterial and viral meningococcal disease. [Read about the outbreak here.]

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has information on the disease as well as the immunization schedule at their website. The current recommendations include a dose at 11-years-old with a booster at  from ages 16- to 18-years-old.
