The Association for Home and Hospice of North Carolina and the Hospice and Home Care Foundation of North Carolina will be hosting a free workshop on pain assessment and management in patients with dementia on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm at the Hospice of Wake County, Raleigh, NC.
Workshop speaker Joseph Shega, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, will discuss the following topics:
- Hierarchy approach to pain assessment
- Modifications to nocioception
- Risks and benefits of commonly used analgesics
- Alternative expressions of pain
- Differences between dementia and confusion
