Lori Helm, MD, a family physician from Vass, NC, was installed as President of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) in Boston last week. Conrad Flick, MD, of Raleigh was elected to the AAFP Board of Directors. Two NC family physicians were appointed to chair two of the AAFP’s seven national Commissions. Tom Koinis, MD, of Oxford will chair the Commission on Public Health and Science, and Karen Smith, MD, of Raeford will chair the Commission on Quality and Practice Improvement. The North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians’ Health Disparities Initiative was selected as the AAFP Foundation Chapter Program of the Year.
