NCDMV Seeks Staff for Medical Review Board

The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles’ (NCDMV) Medical Review Program is seeking highly motivated, civic-minded physicians to serve on its Medical Review Board Hearings.

The Medical Review Program is responsible for protecting the motoring public by monitoring drivers who suffer from medical conditions that may affect their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. The program holds hearings that give drivers an opportunity to appear in person to contest license cancellations and restrictions.

Hearings are held in Raleigh one week per month, but NCDMV is exploring opportunities to hold hearings in other geographic locations. Fifteen hearings are scheduled daily, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each hearing takes about 30 minutes. NCDMV provides consulting and case review fees for participating physicians and reimburses travel expenses according to state guidelines.

Participation on the NCDMV Review Board provides an opportunity to work with individuals who are passionate about striking the appropriate balance between the privilege to drive and the safety of all who use our roadways. The program may be of particular interest to physicians involved in health issues related to North Carolina’s senior citizens.

To learn more about participating, please contact Debbie Jones (919-861-3313) or Reita Smolka (919-861-3035).
