NCMS Gains Burr’s and Hagen’s Support for Better Transparency in Misvalued Medicare Codes

The North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) helped secure the support of our US Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Kay Hagan (D-NC) with their signing on to a letter to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Marilyn Tavenner encouraging better review and revision of misvalued Medicare Part B codes.

In the letter, drafted by Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-New Hampshire), the Senators state “While we support the accurate valuation of reimbursement rates for services provided under the Medicare program, we are concerned that the current process is not sufficiently transparent and does not allow for adequate stakeholder engagement, feedback and preparation before these changes are finalized.”

The goal is to provide more transparency and give doctors more time for rebuttal of fee schedule changes.
