NCMS House of Delegates Convenes Closing Session

Incoming NCMS President John R. Mangum, MD, addressed the closing session of the House of Delegates (HOD) this morning at the NCMS Annual Meeting in Winston-Salem.  Installed last night during an inaugural ceremony, Dr. Mangum officially takes office at the close of today’s HOD session.

Dr.  Mangum is in private practice as a family physician with Sanford Medical Group, a satellite of Pinehurst Medical Clinic.  He entered private practice in 1984, after completing his residency training Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now Carolinas Medical Center).  He received his medical degree from the UNC-CH School of Medicine. He is a member of the Board of the Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence.  He joined the NCMS in 1985 and served as Secretary-Treasurer for five years before becoming President-Elect last year.

In his address, Dr. Mangum touched briefly on the important role the HOD has played in addressing major issues affecting physicians, and he urged open dialog and contact with the NCMS Board to help the Medical Society’s ongoing role as an advocate for physicians and their patients.  “In our work here, let us never forget the work we do and the far-reaching impact it can have,” he said.
