NCMS Plan Helps Appalachian District Health Department Employees Stay Healthy

Appalachian District Health Department is working hard to make their communities a healthier place to work, live and play. Appalachian District includes three county health departments located in Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga Counties, which are located in the northwest corner of North Carolina.

Since Fall 2013, the Appalachian District Employee Wellness Committee has been focused on implementing an Employee Wellness/Biometric Screening event. When the committee realized there was grant funding available for completing a series of wellness components, it was even easier to stay motivated and focused.  Planning the biometric screening event was a partnership between the health department leadership, Employee Wellness Committee, NCMS Plan and the EI Group. The committee offered incentives to everyone who completed the health assessment and biometric screening. The incentives included drawings for two $25 visa gift cards, two Fit bits, an iPod Nano, yoga mats, core ball, stability ball, weight ball and a Camelback water bottle for every participant.

Appalachian District Health Department Employee Wellness Committee plans to offer this type of screening event in conjunction with an annual event for staff and further encourage their employees to live healthier lives.
