Physician Resource Explains Medicare’s Electronic Prescribing Program

The following one-sheet is useful for physicians who are beginning or need a better understanding of Medicare’s Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Program. It outlines the eRx program, explains incentive payments, highlights eligibility and reporting requirements, and details the system necessary for e-prescribing, how to avoid penalties, who is eligible for exemption, and what physicians can and cannot do while participating in the program. This question and answer one-sheet is available on the AMA’s website.

For additional information, CMS will be holding a conference call regarding the eRx Incentive Program and Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS). The call will take place on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm and will focus on the 2011 PQRS and eRx incentive payments. CMS also will discuss the 2012 PQRS and eRx incentive programs. Register today.

Physicians who need assistance with meeting eRx requirements may contact Terri Gonzalez, NCMS Director of Practice Improvement, at 800-722-1350 or [email protected]. The NCMS offers consulting services through PractEssentials to assist physicians and their practices with practice management needs. NCMS members can receive these services at a discounted rate.
