SHCC Adopts Draft 2011 Medical Facilities Plan

On Wednesday, May 26, NCMS Deputy General Counsel Melanie Phelps attended the State Health Coordinating Council (SHCC) meeting in Raleigh.  The purpose of the meeting was to adopt the Draft 2011 State Medical Facilities Plan (SMFP).  Of note, the SHCC voted to accept the new acute care bed methodology, which will result in a need for 386 new acute care beds.  Despite the recommendation of the Acute Care Services Committee, the SHCC decided not to include a moratorium on the beds (which was proposed in response to the expected effects of health system reform) in the 2011 Draft SMFP.
