Assistant NC DHHS Secretary for Health Information Technology (HIT) Steve Cline, DDS, MPH, announced this week that the state has launched a new HIT website. Dr. Cline says the website is for collecting and sharing information about all American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA 2009)-related HIT initiatives as well as other key HIT efforts. The website, http://healthIT.nc.gov, is still a work in progress and will allow the public to follow the state’s progress toward building interoperable information systems between healthcare providers, patients, and their partners in care. Among the website’s offerings is a section on the North Carolina Health Information Exchange, including materials and minutes for the NC HIE Board and Workgroups. NCMS Past President G. Hadley Callaway, MD, is a member of the NC HIE Board, with several physicians participating in the workgroups.

As reported in the Bulletin last week, the NCMS and its Foundation are actively involved in HIT development in North Carolina. Read “NCHWTF Contracts with NCMS Foundation to Facilitate EHR Loan Fund.” Click here to visit an archive of HIT-related articles on the NCMS website.
