The North Carolina Medical Society Foundation (NCMSF) has received an additional $150,000 grant from The Physicians Foundation, a national organization dedicated to advancing the work of physicians and improving the quality of healthcare for all Americans. This grant comes about four months after another $100,000 award to NCMSF from The Physicians Foundation.
Both grants will assist with funding of the Toward Accountable Care (TAC) Consortium and Initiative, which was launched in August. TAC, comprised of the NCMS and 33 other North Carolina medical societies and organizations, is committed to helping the medical community face the challenges of a changing healthcare environment.
“We are thrilled by this grant award,” said Melanie Phelps, NCMSF Associate Executive Director. “This vote of financial confidence shows that our consortium’s work is of great value to our community and beyond. We look forward to working with consortium members and The Physicians Foundation to reach our goals.”
The consortium’s goals include improving the health of and the healthcare experience for patients through better care coordination, enhanced patient engagement, quality measurement, and cost containment. The initiative aims to provide the medical community with the knowledge and tools needed to understand, participate in, navigate, lead and succeed in a value-driven healthcare system.
These generous grants from The Physicians Foundation will fund major projects including educational webinars and “white papers” developed by Smith Anderson law firm with the advice of North Carolina physician leaders, to help physicians better understand value-driven, accountable care models. A general interest “toolkit” addressing how physician groups may prepare for the approaching accountable care era has already been published and is available through the consortium. The new grant will help fund preparation of 15 additional specialty specific “toolkits.”
